ST PAUL’S NEEDS YOUR HELP PLEASE SUPPORT OUR £400,000 APPEAL!

THE MAIN CHURCH BUILDING The main church building is used for everything from worship services, weddings and funerals to musical events, school carol concerts and once even as a setting in a Hollywood movie (Love Actually). The renovation work will enhance this important space with a new crèche and kitchen for all to use. |

THE COMMUNITY CENTRE Home to Clapham Montessori nursery school and Arty Party holiday art programmes, as well as numerous occasional users from dance groups to children’s birthday parties, the Community Centre is an important space in a congested area that all can use and benefit from. But it can’t function without a working roof! |

Most community group activities are in the 2-storey east end |
EDEN GARDEN AND OUTSIDE SPACE The space around St Paul’s is often described as a ‘hidden gem’ and - in particular - the community has invested much time and effort in making the Eden Garden special. The renovation work will foster this as there is a significant overlap between the outside space and the Community Centre in terms of volunteers and the use of facilities. |

THE PROBLEMS • The roof at the east end is in serious disrepair and is causing damage to the fabric of the building. • The electrics need replacing, and we need a new crèche and kitchen. • Refurbishment generally is long overdue.
THE SOLUTION Refurbishment costs money - but it is necessary if St Paul's is to continue its role as a centre for the community. The cost of the roof work alone is estimated at £225,000. |

WHAT WE WANT TO PROVIDE We aim to continue to provide a building and outdoor space for the whole community that is as relevant for future needs as it has been in the past. The plan is to protect St Paul’s as a place of worship and a home for a range of local user groups. Some of the current uses and users of St Paul’s are: • Arty Party Holiday Workshops • Birthday Parties • Charity Events • Clapham Chamber Concerts • Clapham Community Choir • London Beekeepers • Montessori Nursery School • Neighbourhood Meetings • Toddler Groups • Women’s Institute.

“This site in Clapham old town has been at the heart of community since the 12th Century. It is historic, peaceful and a very beautiful place for everyone to enjoy. I hope that you will value St Paul’s enough to want to keep it and to help us raise the funds needed to preserve the building and grounds for this community and for future generations. Please consider how you can contribute to this appeal, I look forward to hearing from you. Many thanks.”
The Reverend Deborah Matthews

In recent years we have been delighted that our local MP, Kate Hoey, has come to St Paul’s Summer Fair to mark the success of various projects in the Eden Garden. Kate has now added her good wishes to our appeal.

“St Paul’s provides a much-needed resource for the community. I commend this fundraising appeal to you and hope that you will give it your full support in any way you can.” Kate Hoey MP |
