A very big thank you to everyone who contributes to the life of St. Paul's in their giving of time and resources, and in being a regular member of this church community.
What Stewardship means for St. Paul's
St Paul’s operates as a stewardship parish where members of the congregation give their time and talents to support the ministry. without your help in this work we would not be able to function. Have a look at the job descriptions below and see where you could offer your skills and gifts. If you would like more information about this then please contact Nicola at

Another aspect of stewardship is financial giving. St Paul’s has no endowments and does not receive central funds. The money given by the congregation and our fund raising events account for almost all the £70,000 that it costs per year to pay stipends and maintain the church. St Paul’s operates a Gift Aid scheme, where tax is recovered on all eligible donations from basic rate tax payers. Nick Curtis, our treasurer (020 7722 3471), will be able to give you details. Thank you for your generosity.
Stewardship Roles
Cantor/Music
A cantor sings the responsorial psalm at the Sunday morning Eucharist. We always welcome new singers and musicians. An all-age choir is formed from members of the congregation at Christmas and Easter. We are starting to develop a choir to sing at more services throughout the year and would love to hear from you if you would like to help us develop the music at St. Paul’s.
Catering
At St. Paul’s we often hold events at which we like to serve refreshments. If you can help with this we would be glad to hear from you.
Church Flower Rota
Each week members of this rota provide and arrange the flowers for the altar and portch. This is a very important ministry and helps to make the church beautiful for us and for God.
Cleaning the church To organise and participate in cleaning the church 4 times a year, giving it a special clean and keeping it fresh.
Coffee Rota
This is a very necessary and social part of our gathering, giving people the chance to stay and chat after the service. It involves preparation of coffee, tea or soft drinks, at the back of church, after every Sunday Eucharist and occasional special services and events. Preparations are made before the services.
DIY
We are always in need of these skills to keep our building and our fabric up-together.
Eucharistic Ministers
Administering the chalice at Communion. If you would like to volunteer for this ministry please speak to the Vicar.
Events Organisation
We have two major events each year The Summer Fair and Bonfire Party. We are always looking for people to help out with these but also to look to new events.
Intercessor Rota
Leading the Intercessions during Sunday morning services and occasionally for special services. Deborah will be available to talk to anyone volunteering to do this for the first time and offer them support and help.
Laundry Rota
Washing and ironing the church linen for a month at a time.
Lesson Reader Rota
Reading one of the lessons at the Sunday morning service as shown on the rota. A good clear voice is needed.
Lifeline
Lifeline is a support organisation for the elderly and house bound. Volunteering can range from occasional help at the summer outings and Christmas party to a more regular commitment.
Sacristan Rota
Setting up the church before the services is a vital duty. It's not a difficult task but it needs a regular commitment and the ability to be in church 45 minutes before the service. The sacristan also rings the bell at 9.35am.
Server Rota
To be a member of the altar party and perform the necessary duties during Sunday morning services. This is also open to children who have received their first communion.
Sidesperson Rota To be in church by 9.15am at the latest, to prepare the books and leaflets for handing out, and putting them away after the service. Welcoming people to church and helping them to feel at home in St. Paul’s.
Sunday School Rota
Helping with Sunday School. Experience not necessary. Occasional help also needed with children's work e.g. Crib Service and Good Friday Workshop. and work with St. Paul’s Youth Group
Traidcraft
Setting up and putting away Traidcraft goods on a Sunday morning. The more help that is offered then the more frequently we can run the stall. Selling these goods ensures that those who produced them receive a fair deal.
