St. Paul’s is a church in the modern catholic tradition. Our service book is Common Worship. Our hymnbooks are the New English Hymnal and Hymns Old and New. We aim to combine traditional music with some of the more contemporary.
We value our worship together as a time to build up and support the body of Christ. At major Festivals we have incense in our services, and gather an all-age choir together from the congregation. The Sacrament is reserved in the Lady Chapel, where people can find space for private prayer.
On Sunday mornings children are made welcome at the very active Sunday school, held in the hall at the east end of the church. Alternatively they are welcome to remain in the service. Sunday school return to church at The Peace. After the Post Communion Prayer, Sunday school feed back to the congregation their theme for the day. Children are received into communion from the age of 7 after a course of instruction.
Adults and children participate fully in our services as readers, servers, intercessors, sidespeople and cantors. St. Paul’s operates from a series of rotas in which people are all given the opportunity to contribute their gifts.
